Fahed Abu-Akel, moderator of the 214th General Assembly 2002-2003, was elected moderator of the National Middle Eastern Presbyterian Caucus (NMEPC) for 2009-2011 June 11 in Atlanta, Ga., during the Big Tent event.

The 2009-11 NMEPC officers and executive committee includes also, Fakhri Yacoub, vice moderator; Raafat L. Zaki, secretary; Joseph Faragalla, treasurer; Fuad Khouri, peacemaking chair: Zohny Hanna, funds development chair: Tamara Abhari,

communication chair: Lucy Janjigian, women’s chair: Noha Khoury, Christian Education and youth chair.

“Our caucus leadership across the U.S.A. is ready and willing to speak and preach in your congregation, presbytery, synod, and GAC about the importance of reaching Middle Eastern people in the U.S.A., to commit their life to Jesus Christ and be a vital member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.),” Abu-Akel stated after his election. The caucus, he added,  wants to remind Presbyterians that “as a result of our mission faithfulness for the last 180 years in the Middle East, the Presbyterians of the Middle East are the largest Protestant body. We hope and pray that our church will continue to pray and support our mission partnership in the Middle East.”

Congregations, presbyteries, and synods interested in beginning a ministry with Middle Eastern people in their areas can call the GAC/ PC(USA) staff representative, Amgad Beblawi, associate Middle Eastern congregational support office in Louisville, Ky., or contact Fahed Abu-Akel fabu-akel@peachtreepres.org.
